Mississippi delegation backs ‘Pay our Troops Bills’
By WXXV Staff
Representative Mike Ezell and Senator Roger Wicker are co-sponsoring bills in both chambers of congress that would make sure military service members are paid in the event of a government shutdown.
Ezell co-sponsored the ‘Pay our Troops’ Act which is led by Congresswoman Jen Kiggans of Virginia, a Navy veteran.
The bill would appropriate funds for all members of the Armed Forces, including reservists, to pay them if there is a shutdown this fiscal year.
More than 50 Republicans and five Democrats have signed on since the legislation was introduced last week.
Wicker, Dan Sullivan of Alaska, and Ted Cruz of Texas are leading companion legislation in the Senate. Cindy Hyde-Smith is a co-sponsor. Ezell said, “This week I signed on to a bipartisan bill called the “Pay Our Troops Act.” You know, with all these politics going on in Washington, D.C. with a potential shutdown, our first priority is making sure we take care of our troops and take care of this country.”
