11-year-old puts talent to work to design MPD uniform patch

By Pat Brown

The 11-year-old daughter of Phillip and Michele Magee, Paisley Magee, has designed the new uniform patch for the Magee Police Department.

Completing the patch took about 25 hours from start to finish. Paisley said she had a lot of time during the pandemic to get really good on the computer and through her Scopes class in Mize she developed the interest in computer designed art.

Her dad, Phillip, a City of Magee employee, said she is a lot better on the computer because of the time spent and because of that he got her involved in the project.

She met with her dad and Police Chief Shane Little and got a general idea of what was required and went from there. Paisley has had no formal art training but has a natural talent for graphic design. If you see her art you would agree she is pretty talented also.

She is currently in the sixth grade in Mize. When asked what she wanted to do when she grows up, she said she hasn't decided, but she likes art and realizes she may have to expand into other forms of media.

She has also prepared a piece of art that hangs in Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith's office.

At present she hopes to attend college at Ole Miss when she graduates from high school, but she said but there is also a college in Central Florida she may attend to continue her interest in art.
