HYDE-SMITH AIDE, GREGORY ALSTON, SELECTED FOR APPALACHIAN LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE PROGRAM
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today commended the selection of Gregory Alston of Oxford, her North Mississippi field representative and general counsel, to participate in the first class of the Appalachian Leadership Institute.
The Appalachian Regional Commission established the Institute to develop public policy, community development, education, and other leadership skills among professionals from across the Appalachian Region.
“Gregory Alston has proven himself to be a valued asset on my staff. He will bring his talents to the Leadership Institute, and I believe what he learns through this program will benefit the people of North Mississippi as he represents my office,” Hyde-Smith said.
A native of Hattiesburg, Alston worked for the late Senator Thad Cochran before joining the Hyde-Smith staff. Prior to that, Alston served as president of the University of Mississippi Student Body, president of the University of Mississippi School of Law Student Body, and president of the Institutions of Higher Learning Student Body President’s Council of the State of Mississippi.
Alston, Albine Bennett of the CREATE Foundation in Tupelo, and GT McCullough of The Alliance in Corinth are the three Mississippians selected as fellows in the inaugural 40-member class.
