HYDE-SMITH TO CHAIR SENATE AGRICULTURE SUBCOMMITTEE

Hyde-Smith Subcommittee Assignments on Energy & Natural Resources Committee Also Set

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today announced that she has been named chairman of the Senate Agriculture’s Subcommittee on Commodities, Derivatives, Risk Management and Trade in the 119th Congress.

This subcommittee of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee oversees commodity programs, derivatives and digital assets, crop insurance, and agricultural trade.  This assignment represents Hyde-Smith’s second subcommittee chairmanship in the new Congress.

“I look forward to this new opportunity to serve our farmers, ranchers, and rural communities.  The agriculture sector and rural America are facing significant economic challenges, and it’s crucial that we work diligently to finally pass a new Farm Bill that will help them continue to lead globally,” Hyde-Smith said.

Hyde-Smith, the former Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, will also serve on the:

  • Subcommittee on Conservation, Forestry, Natural Resources, and Biotechnology, which oversees conservation programs, forest management, natural resources, pesticides, and agricultural biotechnology; and
  • Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, Poultry, and Food Safety, which oversees livestock, poultry and dairy production, marketing, food safety, and security.

Hyde-Smith also serves on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, which approved its 119th Congress subcommittee rosters on Tuesday.  Hyde-Smith will serve on the:

  • Subcommittee on Energy, which oversees, among other issues, liquefied natural gas projects, oil and natural gas regulation, new technologies research and development, and energy conservation programs.
  • Subcommittee on Public Lands, Forests, and Mining, which oversees, among other issues, Outer Continental Shelf leasing, public lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service, Federal mineral leasing, and national mining and minerals policy.

In late January, the Senate Committee on Appropriations named Hyde-Smith as chair of the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee and added her to the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee.
