HYDE-SMITH TO CHAIR SENATE TRANSPORTATION, HUD APPROPRIATIONS SUBCOMMITTEE

Hyde-Smith Also Lands Military Construction-VA Spot, Will Serve on Six Subcommittees of Importance to Mississippi

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) was officially named as the new chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) for the 119th Congress.

Hyde-Smith, in addition to chairing the THUD Appropriations Subcommittee, will also serve on the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies (MilCon-VA) Appropriations Subcommittee, a new assignment that means she will now be serving on six of the 12 subcommittees that make up this important Senate committee.

“I look forward to leading the Transportation-HUD appropriations subcommittee and producing funding bills in a timely and fiscally-responsible manner,” Hyde-Smith said.  “I expect we’ll face many challenges but I will continue to work hard for our nation and Mississippi as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.  I am also grateful to Chair Collins for this opportunity and appreciate her leadership of the committee very much.”

Completing the FY2025 appropriations process, begun by the House and Senate last year, is among Hyde-Smith’s first priorities.  Work will also begin on writing the FY2026 appropriations bills that will address the priorities of the new Trump administration.

At THUD, Chairman Hyde-Smith will lead the development of appropriations bills with jurisdiction over a wide variety of federal agencies, among them the U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Highway Administration, Maritime Administration, Federal Housing Administration, and Appalachian Development Highway System.

In addition to THUD and MilCon-VA, Hyde-Smith retained her subcommittee memberships on:
•    Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies
•    Energy and Water Development
•    Homeland Security
•    Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies
