Hyde-Smith, Colleagues Affirm Strong Support for Israel

On Wednesday, Oct. 18, U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) said U.S. solidarity with Israel following the Hamas terrorist massacre on October 7 must be met with action to protect Israel and hold Iran accountable for its support of global terrorism.
Hyde-Smith joined Republican colleagues at a news conference to affirm U.S. support for Israel’s fight against Hamas’ terrorism, destruction, and violence, and to discuss what Israel needs to destroy terrorist threats to its existence.
“I have on my Jerusalem cross today. I put it on early morning of October the 7th,” said Hyde-Smith. The most important thing we can do is pray for Israel and the people of Israel, but we’ve got to put feet to those prayers. We cannot stop there. We’ve got to take action."
Hyde-Smith has cosponsored a resolution in support of Israel and signed a letter that calls on President Biden to immediately convene the G7 nations to take action to limit Iran’s its ability to support terrorist groups like Hamas. The Senator also indicated her support for expected legislation to shore up Israel’s security and weaken Iran’s ability to funnel money into terrorist organizations.
Hyde-Smith was also critical of Biden policies, such as the withdrawal from Afghanistan and unfreezing $6.0 billion in Iranian revenues, as contributing to the attacks on Israel.
“I’m afraid that Hamas has taken advantage because they’ve been emboldened by President Biden’s weak policies in Afghanistan and the decision to unfreeze $6 billion of Iranian oil revenue,” said Hyde-Smith.
“I will support those policies that shore up Israel’s security, and as Senator Katie Britt said yesterday, ‘We’ve got to look evil in the eye and take it out,’” the Senator continued. “As the Jewish state works to secure its borders, we need be securing our own borders. With the destruction that has happened in Israel, our thoughts have to be on protecting our country, but help Israel protect the state of Israel. Again, my prayers are with the Israelis, the state of Israel, and I ask the American people to pray with us.”
