WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today issued a statement to commemorate Thanksgiving, encouraging Mississippians to remain steadfast in the “American tradition of expressed gratitude.”

“This American tradition of expressed gratitude is so important as we recognize strife in our own country and around the world,” Hyde-Smith said.

“As the Bible teaches us: ‘Let us rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances.’  I will continue to rejoice and give thanks for the many blessings being an American allows, and pray to God for the continued safety of our state and our nation,” the Senator said.  “To all Mississippians, I hope you have a warm, safe, and Happy Thanksgiving.  God bless you and God bless our great nation.”

As we gather to celebrate Thanksgiving, I wish all Mississippians a very happy, blessed, and bountiful holiday.

This is a wonderful time to give thanks for God’s many blessings, and surround ourselves with family and friends to share favorite foods and cheer on our college football team.

This American tradition of expressed gratitude is so important as we recognize strife in our own country and around the world.

As we come together this year, take time to thank the brave men and women of our military, first responders, and all those who spend this day working to keep us safe.  I pray for peace and safety for them and their families this Thanksgiving.

I also pray for our fellow countrymen in need of food, shelter, or a helping hand.  In acknowledging our own good fortune, we must recommit ourselves to share our bounty with our neighbors in their time of need, and know that they will be there for us in our time of need.

As the Bible teaches us: “Let us rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances.”

I will continue to rejoice and give thanks for the many blessings being an American allows, and pray to God for the continued safety of our state and our nation.

To all Mississippians, I hope you have a warm, safe, and Happy Thanksgiving.  God bless you and God bless our great nation.
