WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today issued a Veterans Day message in which she honors the nation’s veterans and continues to encourage Mississippians to become more engaged with veterans.
“Our veterans have fought selflessly, tirelessly, and bravely to ensure that we can enjoy a life of freedom and democracy here at home,” Hyde-Smith said. “Their sacrifices, and the sacrifices of their families, go beyond what many of us can even imagine. And so, as Americans, we have a responsibility to remember, honor, and support our veterans in whatever way we can.”
“Today, less than 7 percent of the adult civilian population are considered veterans, yet many of us may know these heroes as friends, family members, coworkers, or neighbors. These men and women and their families are a valuable part of communities, and we must take care of and support our own,” the Senator said.
Hyde-Smith again encouraged Mississippians to participate in National Warrior Call Day on Sunday. This day is set aside to encourage Americans to actively reach out to servicemembers, veterans, and first responders to strengthen social connections that can promote mental health and wellbeing. Hyde-Smith is also an original cosponsor of the National Warrior Call Day Resolution (S.Res.208), which the Senate passed in September.
“Sometimes, it is the smallest gesture that makes the biggest impact, especially for those veterans struggling with the aftermath of their service,” Hyde-Smith said.
Hyde-Smith also invited Mississippi veterans with problems accessing U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs resources to contact her for assistance.
