HYDE-SMITH, PRO-LIFE CHAIR, BLASTS YET ANOTHER SHOW VOTE ON FLAWED IVF LEGISLATION

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), chair of the Senate Pro-Life Caucus, today issued the following statement blasting yet another “show vote” scheduled by the Senate Democrats on flawed and far-reaching legislation regarding assisted reproductive technology, which has been erroneously portrayed as only protecting access to in vitro fertilization:

“Here we go again with more time-wasting show votes intended to prop up vulnerable Democrats ahead of an election.  I consistently maintain my support for IVF and, as chair of the Pro-Life Caucus, I will always fight for the lives of children.  Instead of taking up a flawed legislation the Senate already voted on weeks ago, a better use of time might be to consider truly critical legislation like appropriations bills or the National Defense Authorization Act.  Sadly, for the American people, the Senate Majority Leader has refused to bring any of them to the floor.”

The Senate, which already blocked S.4445 in early June, is set to take a procedural vote on the bill at 3:30 p.m. Eastern/2:30 p.m. Central, on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Hyde-Smith, who in February blocked other misleading legislation regarding in vitro fertilization, has introduced and cosponsored multiple life-affirming bills in the 118th Congress.
