HYDE-SMITH VISITS CORINTH PLANT & CREDITS WORKERS FOR CONTRIBUTING TO GROWING MISS., NATIONAL ECONOMY
U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith visits Caterpillar workers in Corinth.
CORINTH, MISS. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today thanked workers at Caterpillar’s Corinth facility for their role in establishing a strong manufacturing base in Mississippi and contributing to a booming American economy.
Hyde-Smith met the workers as part of a briefing and tour of the Corinth facility, which is the corporation’s largest remanufacturing center.
“Every worker at this facility is contributing to the economic turnaround we’re experiencing in our state and in our country. Manufacturing in Mississippi is growing stronger all the time, energized by the pro-growth agenda of lower taxes and less government promoted by President Trump and a Republican-led Congress,” Hyde-Smith said following her visit.
“We have a lot to be optimistic about with more people working, higher productivity, better wages, and more investment in job creation,” she said. “I believe we must stay focused on policies that will help put more Mississippians to work and make our economy stronger.”
The Corinth plant is one of four Caterpillar facilities in Mississippi, which employ more than 1,400 workers. Caterpillar operations are also supported by an extensive supplier network in the state.
Hyde-Smith, who serves on the Senate Appropriations Committee, cited the fact that the U.S. economy grew at 4.2 percent in the second quarter of 2018, and that the economy added more 201,000 jobs in August. In all, more than 4 million jobs have been created since President Trump took office.
Recent economic reports also show that the number of Americans filing for unemployment is at its lowest level since 1969, and that a recent Census Bureau report indicated the percent of Americans living in poverty fell to its lowest rate since 2006—the result of job creation and rising household incomes.
