HYDE-SMITH VOTES FOR DEFENSE POLICY BILL

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today voted for Senate passage of the FY2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a measure setting national security policy and authorizing funding to equip and train the U.S. military.

“Provisions in this National Defense Authorization Act establish the policies the President and our military leaders need to rebuild our Armed Forces.  It authorizes increased appropriations to provide our fighting forces with resources, equipment, and training they require to protect the American people,” said Hyde-Smith, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

“I look forward to supporting the defense appropriations bill that will fulfill these authorized priorities, including the 2.6 percent pay raise for our servicemen and women,” she said.

The NDAA authorizes a total of $716 billion for U.S. national defense, establishes flexible policies to meet national security challenges, and provides a 2.6 percent pay raise—and the largest pay raise for our service members in nearly 10 years..  Important to Mississippi, the measure authorizes appropriations for aircraft and ship procurement.

The bill passed on an 85-10 vote.
