HYDE-SMITH VOTES TO SEND DEFENSE POLICY BILL TO PRESIDENT TRUMP

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today voted to send President Trump the FY2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), legislation that sets national security policies and authorizes appropriations sought by the President to rebuild America’s military.

The Senate approved the bill (HR.5515) on an 87-10 vote, clearing it to be sent to the President to be signed into law.

“Threats to our national security are constant and evolving.  This measure sets policies that effectively answer our enemies by ensuring the President and our military leaders have the tools and resources to meet those challenges,” said Hyde-Smith, a Senate Appropriations Committee member.

“I look forward to the upcoming debate on the appropriations bill that will provide the actual funding to carry out the provisions of this authorization measure,” she said.

The NDAA authorizes a total of $716 billion for U.S. national defense, establishes flexible policies to meet national security challenges, and provides a 2.6 percent pay raise—and the largest pay raise for our service members in nearly 10 years.. Important to Mississippi, the measure authorizes appropriations for aircraft and ship procurement.

The Senate is expected to take up the FY2019 Defense Appropriations Bill later this month.
