Local health clinics get federal money for opioid treatment

Staff report

Several health clinics in East Mississippi are in line for federal money to opioid and substance abuse.

The Expanding Access to Quality Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health Services (SUD-MH) grant awards will go to 18 community health centers throughout Mississippi, according to a press release from the office of U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith.

In East Mississippi, three clinics will each receive $285,000: Greater Meridian Health Clinic, Inc.; East Central Mississippi Health Care, Inc., Sebastopol; and Outreach Health Services, Inc., Shubuta.

The awards are part of more than 1,200 grants nationwide awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The SUD-MH grants are intended to support evidence-based strategies to treat substance use disorders.
