Long Beach breaks ground on Gateway Project

By Jordyn Lassiter

The Long Beach Gateway Project, launched in 2018, was proposed to enhance the city’s appearance along Highway 90. Now, it’s finally a reality.

The project features new signage and upgraded landscaping, designed to create a stronger connection between downtown and the scenic beachfront.

This plan was already in progress before Hurricane Zeta devastated their harbor. The funding comes from federal grants, secured through the efforts of then-Representative Steven Palazzo, current Representative Mike Ezell, Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, and Senator Roger Wicker.

This project does not include the highly speculated piers that were damaged from Hurricane Zeta, as Harrison County owns those and is part of a completely separate restoration process.
