MCEDA receives $450K grant
An access road to a megasite established by the Madison County Economic Development Authority is being made possible through at $450,000 grant from the Delta Regional Authority.
The Madison Megasite, formerly known as the Panther Creek Megasite, is west of I-55 on 2,000-acre off Highway 22 near Nissan Parkway. The establishment of a megasites is typically what make industries such as Nissan possible.
“The Madison County Economic Development Authority (MCEDA) is grateful to the Delta Regional Authority for its investment in our Megasite access road project,” MCEDA Executive Director Joseph P. Deason said. “We look forward to beginning construction on the access road during the fourth quarter of 2019.”
The funding was part of an overall $1.48 million investment in Mississippi by DRA. Other projects included a water system expansion in Marshall County, industrial facility improvements in Panola County, and utilities expansion in Union County.
“Dependable water, sewer, and transportation infrastructure are critical to the economic vitality of these rural communities in Mississippi,” U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith said. “DRA Investments in these four projects will support local efforts to encourage economic development and job creation across the region.”
U.S. Rep. Michael Guest and U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson echoed Hyde-Smith’s sentiments, saying investments in these communities are vital to continued growth.
“The DRA’s investment in Madison County will help promote future economic development opportunities, which will grow jobs and wages for hard-working Mississippians,” Guest said.
