WICKER, HYDE-SMITH ANNOUNCE $6.45 MILLION FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO LOCAL AIRPORTS
Miss. Senators Detail Six Grants to Support Statewide Air Transportation Upgrades
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) announced the award of $6.45 million for improvements to six airports in Mississippi.
The grants will be awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation on behalf of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
“This fourth round of grants will help airports across our state make important safety and capacity upgrades to improve service for thousands of travelers and the dozens of communities that depend on these transportation hubs,” Wicker said.
“Rural communities benefit greatly from access to air service. This FAA investment in small airports around Mississippi will help ensure residents, visitors and industry have reliable airport infrastructure to support economic vitality in these regions,” Hyde-Smith said.
The FAA grants for Mississippi will support the following airport improvement projects:
- Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport, City of Gulfport - $2,140,907 to reimburse expenditures to improve security, widen the taxiway to 75 feet, construct a 400-foot access road, acquire a power sweeper, expand the terminal building to 124,104 feet, install 15,010 feet of perimeter fencing, and conduct studies to assess airport pavement conditions and drainage
- John Bell Williams Airport, City of Raymond - $1,195,860 to construct an 825-foot taxiway
- Bruce Campbell Field, City of Madison - $1,157,481 to rehabilitate 4,500 feet of the taxiway
- McComb/Pike County/John E. Lewis Field, City of McComb - $920,700 to install 4,000 feet of airport drainage improvements
- University-Oxford Airport, City of Oxford - $677,402 to rehabilitate 2,320 square yards of apron
- Fletcher Field, City of Clarksdale - $360,000 to reconstruct taxiway lighting
