By Brett Campbell
Brookhaven High seniors Samuel Steele Arnold and Grayson Haze Childress were honored Wednesday at the Brookhaven Rotary Club by U.S. Congressman Michael Guest. U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, of Brookhaven, joined in the presentation of certificates.
Arnold was accepted into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He wants to lead on the ground in the infantry. Read his story here.
Childress was accepted into the U.S. Air Force Academy. He wants to study mechanical engineering and become a pilot. Read his story here.
“It is rare to have two students from the same area accepted into a service academy,” said Rob Pillow, communications director for Guest. “The congressman can only nominate 10 students from the district to one of the five service academies, so it’s a very competitive application process.”
