WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today joined her predecessor retired U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) as he closes his Washington office after more than 39 years of service in the U.S. Senate.
Both Hyde-Smith and Cochran took the opportunity to enjoy the Cochran’s baby grand piano. Cochran has reluctantly decided to sell the piano, which has been a fixture in his office for decades.
“I have great respect for Senator Cochran and the years of service he gave to Mississippi and the nation. I’ll do my best to measure up to the standard he set as public servant—and as a pianist,” Hyde-Smith said.
Hyde-Smith took the oath of office on April 9 to fill the Senate seat vacated following Cochran’s retirement on April 1.
