U.S. SENATOR HYDE-SMITH PRESIDES OVER U.S. SENATE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today opened the Thursday session of the United States Senate, a role assigned to her as a new Senator.
Hyde-Smith opened Senate proceedings today by calling on Senate Chaplain Dr. Barry Black to offer a prayer, and leading the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
“This is an important responsibility and I’m pleased to be part of this tradition,” Hyde-Smith said.
Hyde-Smith is expected to continue in this role on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
The new Senator from Mississippi was assigned the role by Senate Pro Tempore, Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).
Chaplain Black’s prayer:
Let us pray. God of wisdom and order, who filled the universe with mysteries of Your power, restore us to the image of Your glory. Create in us clean hearts and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Lord, we thank You for Your life-giving spirit flowing through us to reinforce our faith, hope, and love. Lord, inspire our Senators. Give them truth in their innermost being, a sense of dedication in their work, and a spirit of cooperation that they may labor together for the good of this land that we love. May they strive to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with You. We pray in Your great Name. Amen
