HYDE-SMITH JOINS TIM SCOTT’S BILL TO PROTECT PARENTAL RIGHTS, COMBAT INDOCTRINATION IN SCHOOLS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today announced she is cosponsoring U.S. Senator Tim Scott’s legislation to protect parental rights and prevent school administrators from concealing information about students’ gender from their parents.
The Parental Rights Over the Education and Care of Their (PROTECT) Kids Act (S.200) would restrict federal funding for any elementary or middle school that allows students to change their pronouns, gender markers, or sex-based accommodations, including locker rooms and bathrooms, without the consent of their parents.
“There is a troubling trend around the country of some schools promoting social agendas that leave parents out of the picture. Parents have every right to be involved in the education of their children, and Senator Scott’s PROTECT Kids Act defends those rights,” said Hyde-Smith, who cosponsored similar legislation in the 117th Congress.
“Far too often, parents are pushed out of their child’s education—and kids are paying the price. As the party of parents, Republicans are committed to ensuring that parents are always in the driver’s seat when it comes to their child’s upbringing,” Scott said. “I am proud to stand for parental rights and put forth my PROTECT Kids Act to ensure parents remain the lead decision maker in their child’s life.”
The PROTECT Kids Act, which has been referred to the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, is also cosponsored by U.S. Senators Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Lindsey Graham (R- S.C.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), and James Risch (R-Idaho). U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) introduced companion legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives.
