WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today issued a 2024 Independence Day message in which she encourages Americans to “embrace our shared responsibility to uphold the ideals of freedom and justice, allowing them to unite us as one nation, under God.”

“As we come together with family and friends, let us take pride in our rich heritage and renew our dedication to the values that make our country great, and to our commitment to never take for granted the sacrifices made by so many of our fellow Americans,” Hyde-Smith said.

Read Hyde-Smith’s complete Fourth of July message below:

“248 years ago, our Founding Fathers set us on a bold path to freedom, forging a nation grounded in the principles of liberty, equality, and the pursuit of happiness.

“This Independence Day, let us reflect on what it means to be an American as we enjoy the fireworks, parades, and barbecues.

“We are citizens of the greatest county in the world, standing as a shining example of democracy and freedom.  Our nation’s strength lies in its rock-solid commitment to these ideals.

“The United States is what it is today thanks to the bravery and vision of those who fought for our independence -- a proud tradition continued by generations of men and women who have sacrificed to defend our nation ever since.

“They all deserve our respect and gratitude for ensuring we have remained free these almost 250 years.

“As we come together with family and friends, let us take pride in our rich heritage and renew our dedication to the values that make our country great, and to our commitment to never take for granted the sacrifices made by so many of our fellow Americans.

“Let us also embrace our shared responsibility to uphold the ideals of freedom and justice, allowing them to unite us as one nation, under God.

“To my fellow Mississippians, happy Fourth of July.  I hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday.”
