Pro-Life Senator Introduces Legislation to Curb Dangerous Abortion Drugs
Pro-life Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi has introduced legislation aimed at curbing the sales of dangerous RU-486 abortion drugs over the Internet. The Jackson Free Press reports, “The bill is designed to prevent the FDA from lifting regulations that would make medication abortion more accessible, potentially through telemedicine providers or over-the-counter without a prescription.” They quote Senator Hyde-Smith as saying, “Although abortion rates are declining nationwide, rates of chemical abortion are increasing dramatically. Increased use of abortion pills may give the impression that these procedures are safe, when in fact they are quite dangerous.”
The Support and Value Expectant Moms and Babies Act would ensure the FDA is properly regulating RU-486 abortion drugs which induce toilet-bowl abortions. Chemical abortions can lead to painful bleeding, cramping, and other side effects. The talking points for the legislation point out, “Chemical abortions have a much higher complication rate than surgical abortions performed at the same point in pregnancy and result in a higher rate of emergency room visits” and “Mifeprex does not treat ectopic pregnancies, and as a result, many of the women who have died after taking Mifeprex have perished from a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. Without a physician conducting an ultrasound, there is no way to know definitelythat a pregnancy is ectopic. Furthermore, many of the symptoms of having a rupturing ectopic pregnancy are the same symptoms of having a chemical abortion: bleeding, pain, and cramping.”
This legislation is very important and can serve as a check against states that are rushing to force taxpayers to fund the dangerous drugs on college campuses. We noted recently, “Cuomo’s legislative allies wants to continue enabling violent men, especially on college campuses, by making dangerous chemical abortion drugs freely available on campuses. This follows the lead of abortion activist governor Gavin Newsom of California.”
Similarly, many leading Democratic candidates want to remove much of the FDA oversight into RU-486 drugs, at the request of the abortion industry.
