PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (WTOK) - Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith spent Friday morning in Philadelphia at the dedication service of East Central Community College's new diesel technology program.

Senator Hyde-Smith was one of many guests celebrating the dedication of East Central Community College’s diesel technology program in Philadelphia. The program is the 6th of its kind in the state. After months of preparation, students are finally taking classes.

Senator Hyde-Smith spoke about the great need for diesel technology programs and the potential of every student involved.

“To ride by and see this building, at first glance you might think it’s just a building on the side of the road, but trust me transforming this building is transforming lives,” said Senator Hyde-Smith.

Senator Hyde-Smith also met with the students enrolled in the program. She said she looks forward to seeing what each student accomplishes in the future.

“To have the opportunity to come here, local and get the credentials you need and to get the background and knowledge you need to go out into the workforce for so many, it’s a great day," said Senator Hyde-Smith. "As we say in Washington D.C., this is money well spent, because we’re enhancing lives, and we’re enhancing Mississippi,”

The first cohort of 12 students and their instructor began classes August 12th.
