Taylor Defense Products to extend life of US Marine Corps cranes

Taylor Defense Products has secured an indefinite-delivery / indefinite-quantity contract to repair and maintain all-terrain cranes for the US Marine Corps.

The contract is worth up to $84m and was awarded as part of the US Navy’s Service Life Extension Program (SLEP).

Taylor will perform repair and maintenance work for up to 145 all-terrain cranes.

US Senate Appropriations Committee member and Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith said: “The Service Life Extension Program extends the lifespan of equipment used by our men and women in uniform to carry out their missions. I’m pleased Taylor Defense Products will be responsible for ensuring the reliability of cranes used by the Marine Corps.”

An initial $9.71m in FY2019 defence appropriations will be awarded to Taylor Defense to begin maintenance work aimed at extending the life of the cranes.

The all-terrain cranes are rubber tired, hydraulic boom cranes that can provide high-speed, all-terrain capability to lift and swing extremely heavy loads up to 100,000lb.

According to the Federal Business Opportunities website, the cranes can lift and swing 100,000lb and have high reliability, availability, and maintainability.

The Marine Corps received three bids for the contract work. The interested companies were required to demonstrate the ability to restore the all-terrain cranes back to condition.

The contract is expected to run until June 2029 and work will be performed in Louisville, Mississippi, US.

Taylor Defense Products is a heavy lift manufacturer specialised in material handling and logistics products.
