GOLDEN • Golden Manufacturing Co. Inc. has been awarded a $15.9 million contract to manufacture uniforms for the U.S. Navy. The 18-month contract, awarded by the Defense Logistics Agency, includes three one-year option periods, and is funded through FY2019-2021 defense working capital funds.

It’s the second big contract for Golden in recent weeks.

In March, Golden was awarded a similar $18.2 million contract last month to manufacture uniforms for the Army and Air Force by DLA.

That contract included the production of Army Combat Uniform coats and the Improved Hot Weather Combat Uniform. The contract extends through September 2021.

“Golden Manufacturing and its workforce will use this new contract to continue producing quality uniforms for the U.S. Armed Forces. This second contract is further proof of the strong workforce in Mississippi and our commitment to our servicemen and women,” said U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., who serves on the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Golden, which employs about 250 in its Tishomingo County facility, has been officially providing jackets and pants to the U.S. Army, Air Force and Navy since the late 1970s.

Since 2007, Golden has landed contracts valued at about $450 million.

Golden and similar companies actively bid to clothe the nearly 1.3 million active service members in the military, along with another 800,000 or so.
