WICKER, HYDE-SMITH PROMOTE NATIONAL SCHOOL CHOICE WEEK
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) on Monday helped introduce a Senate resolution that designates January 21-27, 2024, as the 14th annual National School Choice Week.
National School Choice Week celebrates the diversity of choices in K-12 education. Organizers believe parents know which educational environments are right for their children and want to give them the freedom to make that choice.
“Parents know best, and they deserve the right to shape their own children’s educational path. School choice empowers them to make those decisions that fit their families’ specific needs,” Wicker said.
“It should be obvious that parents have a choice in their child’s education, but the opposite has been true with parents’ rights under attack recently,” Hyde-Smith said. “This resolution reiterates the fact that mothers and fathers know best when it comes to the most effective method of education for their children.”
Led by U.S. Senator Tim Scott, R-S.C., the Senate resolution was also cosponsored by U.S. Senators Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-La.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), John Boozman (R-Ark.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Mitt Romney (R-Utah), Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), John Cornyn (R-Texas), and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).
